Planning Your Outdoor Backyard New DIY 2019

Have you ever paused and looked at your backyard wondering if you can give it a bit of life? Landscaping a yard can seem like an impossible task, but by breaking it down it not only can be achievable, but affordable. Follow these points and even you can make the most boring of backyards brim with your personal inspiration.

Planning Your Outdoor Backyard

Determine Wants and Conceptualize

The first step in any landscaping project is do get a concept plan based on your wants from your backyard. Remember, proper preparation is the key for success! Drawing a plan is important because you want everything to fit into your available space.

Your plan doesn’t need to be anything fancy. Sketch out a rough draft of your yard and start planning concepts that you want to incorporate into your design. This could range from a veggie garden, a pond, a gravel path and so much more. Also consider what type of backyard layout you want to achieve.

While wants are important, don’t forget about your needs. Do your kids need space for play equipment like outdoor monkey bars? Do you need to accommodate pets? Or open space for kids’ wagons. Remember these items during planning.

Don’t overdo it, however. You want to make sure you planned concept is achievable. Start simple because you can always increase the scope as you nail the basic design.

Budgeting

Conceptualizing your project leads directly to budget. Be realistic with your expenses. Attempt to work out the cost for each of your ideas in your concept plan and prioritize what’s most important to you. Depending on your needs, try to shop around for specials by shopping around.

Recycled items can also be boon and can add character to your yard. Garage sales, flea markets and even trawling through eBay can save you pocketful.

Another way to save money is to consider reducing your lawn size. This cuts down on having to turf and maintain areas covered with grass. Replacing lawn with flowerbeds and filling them with native plants, shrubbery and flowers not only looks good, but costs less than creating flat lawn space.

Finally, it can sometimes be better to work with what you have and spend your resources and time in improving them. That doesn’t mean to say you can’t make any new additions or overhauls, but it always to pay to consider ways you can improve elements of your yard, before you make more drastic alterations.

Design Features

There are clever ways you can incorporate design features to make the most out of your yard space. Look at ways you can include functionality into your design. This could range from walled seating or a built-in BBQ, or fire pits.

Don’t use more hard surfaces than you need. Think about how much entertainment space you require, such as space for an outdoor dining table and make certain to work to that scale. Diving your yard space into boundaries and use steppingstones to mark transitions between zones to further reduce the impact of hard surfaces.

Tying it All Together

Contrast different plant shapes and textures in your landscape for visual design. Smaller plants planted next to larger plants. Think vertically as well. Position upright, growing plants next to low ground plants.

Incorporate your personality into your garden with personal finishing touches. Statutes, potted ferns, a birdhouse cage are just some of the things you can add to your space.
