Silver House by Olivier Dwek Architectures in Zakynthos, Greece New DIY 2019

Project:  Silver House Architects: Olivier Dwek Architectures Location: Zakynthos, Greece Photographs by:  Serge Anton Silver House by Olivier Dwek Architectures The Silver House is a marvelous contemporary residence placed on the Greek Island of Zakynthos. Its design is the result of Brussels-based Olivier Dwek Architectures ‘ work in 2015. The building is set upon a hillside, among a thick forest and with a view of the neighboring island of Kefalonia such that can not be described with words. You will simply have to take it all in from the photographs. Kefallinia. Cephalonia. The island was even described by Homer in ancient times. Its backbone culminates in a peak 1,628m high, in the midst of the Ionian Sea. Seen from the mainland, it surges out of the blue depths in an intense light, often coiffed with a veil of clouds. So when the opportunity arose to build a house facing this spectacle, the choice was obvious. The subject would of course be the island, frame...

10 Things I Love Sunday 2019

Countdown to Halloween! I didn’t really care all that much about Halloween before having a kid (although I do fondly remember some pretty good dress-up parties from back in the day after college). But now that Lola’s here and old enough to get the idea of “Halloween = candy,” well, I think this year will be extra fun! Here’s what else I’m loving this week: 1. My halloween costume with Lola—favorite thing of my year so far!! 2. So excited to read this biography. 3. Planning on getting a pair of these easy-on toddler boots for Lola. 4. How pretty would this be in a holiday hairstyle?! 5. Oh man, definitely making this soon for late night snacking! 6. Todd and I got to spend last weekend at a friend’s empty house while my in-laws came to spend time with Lola and I absolutely love doing these occasional “staycations” with Todd. It is an amazing job but it is hard parenting a toddler while both trying to work and switch off spending time with Lola so the other person can get the...

Elsie’s Adjusted Coffee Setup 2019

As soon as we got home from China with Marigold, I knew it was time to adjust some of our daily routines and simplify as much as possible. For the past year or so, I had been making pour over coffee each morning and the occasional espresso beverage. When we got home, I realized right away that my morning routine no longer included the time to *enjoy* a nice lengthy pour over routine. Pre-Marigold, it had been a routine I treasured each day and I slowly poured the hot water on while slowly waking up each morning. But suddenly it was something I didn’t want to fuss with. In our new routine, I need to wake up an hour earlier (as Nova’s school schedule has changed) and make our coffee, Marigold’s bottle AND her rice before getting her up to feed her. A lot of the time all these things take place within just 10 minutes. There’s quite a bit more multitasking and I knew an automatic coffee maker was the way to go. I didn’t want anything instant (I don’t mind a Keurig while traveling, but i...
